One of my good friends approached me earlier this year with an idea to go down to a cranberry bog for some fall pictures. The place is so unique and the colors so distinctive, so New England. It was a great place and time of year for family pictures!
Last fall I was able to take some pseudo-school portraits of the children in this family. This year I got to try my hand at all the kids together, plus their parents. It was quite a learning experience to see how quickly I could work and how to grab that many individual's attention at the same time. I think in every single image I got at least one person is looking away or grumpy. Luckily the mom had very reasonable expectations of my skills and of her family's cooperation. As long as everyone was in the picture it was good!

On the property of the bog we visited was a fantastic rustic barn. I would have loved another session, just at the barn!
And my favorites are always the candids with all the personality. This kid wouldn't give me a smile in any of the family pictures, but I got one here. And every child wants a jumping picture.
I try to always get a photograph of the adults, but it's funny how much self-consciousness we grown-ups have to fight in front of the camera. I need to work on helping adults feel comfortable with me aiming a lens in their direction.
These twin boys are so lucky to have so many brothers and sisters who love them!
